Overload Course - Most students at rice will maintain a course load of 12 to 18 credit hours per semester during their time on campus. A course overload is any course (s) or credits (semester hours) in a semester beyond the standard number required for timely degree completion. To request an overload, you must meet with an academic advisor to review your academic history and future academic needs before determining whether an overload is warranted. Upon approval, the advisor will adjust the maximum. Students will be charged an overload fee for any courses/credits over five courses/20 credits. A full time student is considered to be enrolled in 12 or more credit. Overload requires permission from the student’s major. In order to graduate early with a journalism degree, you have to overload for a semester or two so you have all of your major requirements done.
